Q. How can I help the cause?

A. Any, and all, volunteer & monetary contributions are welcome:

  • Cash donations (Please scroll to bottom of page)
  • Donation of needed materials & services
  • Sponsorship of a fund-raising event
  • Adoption of a "pet" improvement project from the Park's wish list
  • Membership and/or sponsorship subscription to the "Friends of Latham Park Assn."
  • Purchase of park logo items -- tee shirts, note cards, Diane Anderl's pen & ink frameable "fountain" prints (available at all Park fundraisers)
  • Making a bequest in your will
  • Spreading the word about the Park, its needs, and this site

Q. Who manages the endowment / trust funds?

A. The Trust Department of the Security National Bank in Sioux City, Iowa

Q. Are my donations tax deductible?

A. Yes, the trust qualifies as an IRS 501(c)3, exempt, charitable organization

Q. What Park projects were completed in Phase I?

A. All of the following were accomplished during the 2004 season:

  1. Fountain renovation with full retention of original design -
    funded by an $8350 grant from Missouri River Historical Development - work by Foulk Bros., L&L Builders & Thompson Electric
  2. Addition of winter fountain cover -
    50% of cost donated by Mullin Awning & Siding
  3. Acquisition of new 200 amp electrical service on grounds for future outdoor lighting -
    donated & installed by Thompson Electric Co.
  4. Installation of new furnace & central air conditioning for house -
    funded by a $500 Energy Grant from Mid American & a $700 donation from S.C. Federated Woman's Club - work by C. W. Suter
  5. Acquisition of commercial lawn sprayer -
    donated by Milton Glazer of Master Manufacturing Co.
  6. Renovation of the Northwest entrance -
    funded by a $500 Downtown Sioux City Rotary grant - shrub removal & re-landscaping work by WIT Horticultural students
  7. Acquisition of kitchen refrigerator for public use & stove for caretakers' quarters -
    donated by Karl's TV & Applicances
  8. Installation of 3 new exterior doors on house -
    donated by the Gerkin Co. - labor donated by Guarantee Roofing
  9. Painting of outbuildings -
    work led by the DiBerardino family
  10. Acquisition of tables & chairs for event rentals -
    funded by donations

Q. What Park projects were completed in Phase II?

A. The 2005 accomplishments were many:

  1. Replacement / repair of concrete sidewalks & pads by house, south side, near back porch, near restrooms & west structure -
    work completed by Brower Construction Co.
  2. Painting of house -
    paint donated by Sherwin-Williams / color scheme by Renee Weinberg / painting by Todd Gereau
  3. Acquisition of 4 antique urns for fountain surround -
    refurbished by Craig Arnett
  4. Major tree trimming -
    labor donated by Carter Gardner
  5. Paving of south entrance off alley -
    donated by Frank's Asphalt Co. -- completed
  6. Acquisition of tent for event rentals -
    donated by T&S Enterprises & Antiques
  7. Installation of iron handrails at Lemon St. entrance -
    constructed & donated by Craig Arnett
  8. Construction of wooden walk bridge -
    built & donated by Shawn Emge
  9. Complete rebuild of house front porch -
    materials funding by the Davenport Family & Lew Weinberg -- labor donated by the Siouxland Homebuilders Assn., Willie Delfs of Able Homebuilders, Project Mgr., assisted by:

    architectural services donated by Matt Basye, AIA - FEH Associates, Inc.

Q. What projects were undertaken in Phase III?

A. The following needs were Year 2006 priorities:

  1. Replacement of house gutters -
    donated & installed by Gutter Helmet
  2. New roofs for house, brick shelter & outbuilding -
    donated & installed by Guarantee Roofing
  3. Installation of donation boxes -
    refurbished & installed by Craig Arnett
  4. Major tree trimming & removal -
    labor donated by Carter Gardner
  5. Planting of 4 redbud trees near fountain, 50 spirea in Northeast garden, and 100 hosta plants -
    funds provided by Modern Woodsmen of America
  6. Acquisition of 2 urns & pedestals for northeast garden -
    funded through donations
  7. Installation of living room / dining room wooden blinds -
    donated by Renee Weinberg
  8. Acquisition of 5 new unassembled picnic tables -
    obtained through the City Parks & Recreation Department
  9. Assembly of above picnic tables & construction of weatherproof "events announcement board" -
    110 hours of labor & board materials donated by Eagle Scout Nathan Schwartz, Troop #208
  10. Period lighting installed throughout grounds -
    funded through $10,000 MRHD grant & Davenport Family donation

Q. What was on the Phase IV project list?

A. The following items were addressed in 2007:

  1. Acquisition of 5 additional new unassembled picnic tables -
    obtained through the City Parks & Recreation Department
  2. Beginning of renovation of NE arbor entrance & flowerbeds between arbors -
    grounds design completed & donated by Coughlin Landscaping / new south arbor fully funded & built by Joe Twidwell

Q. What projects are in the plans for Phase V?

A. The following needs currently are Year 2008 priorities:

  1. Replacement of back porch on house -
    labor to be donated by the Siouxland Homebuilders Assn. - materials donors or funding needed
  2. New storm windows for house -
    to be donated by the Gerkin Co. & installed by Guarantee Roofing
  3. Installation of underground sprinkler system -
    donor(s) or funding needed
  4. Painting of garage -
    labor & materials donors (or funding) needed
  5. Tuckpointing of brick shelter -
    labor to be donated by Scott Ohlfest -- funding needed

Q. Are more improvements proposed for a Phase VI?

A. The plan for Year 2009 is:

  1. Complete renovation of NE arbor entrance & flowerbeds between arbors -
    architectural services donated by Matt Basye, AIA - FEH Associates, Inc. / grounds design completed & donated by Coughlin Landscaping -- materials donors or funding needed

Q. Do plans extend to a Phase VII ?

A. The following priorities are forseen for Year 2010 and beyond:

  1. Redecorating of house interior to era & style of home, including floor refinishing & painting -
    consultation services to be donated by Renee Weinberg / work & materials donors (or funding) needed
  2. Installation of period fencing around park perimeter -
    donor(s) or funding needed
  3. Demolition of garage, storage shed & rest rooms, with replacement construction of one multi-purpose building -
    materials & labor donor(s) or funding needed
